The atmosphere here remains noticeably calmer than the busier central concourses, with simpler facilities suited to a smaller volume of travelers.

- Regional Carriers: Cape Air, Silver Airways, Vieques Air Link — providing essential inter-island connections to Vieques, Culebra, and other nearby destinations.
Gates & Layout
Terminal D features gates D1-D9, primarily used for smaller turboprop and regional aircraft:
- Gates D1-D5 - Handle the majority of Cape Air and Vieques Air Link departures to Vieques and Culebra.
- Gates D6-D9 - Serve Silver Airways and additional regional flights.
Note: Gate assignments at SJU are subject to change based on flight schedules. Always confirm your gate at the departure information screens or with your airline. Walking from the central plaza (near Terminal B) to Terminal D takes approximately 7 to 10 minutes.
Pre-Security Area (Check-in & Documentation)
- Check-in for regional carriers, including Cape Air, takes place at counters in the main central terminal area near Terminal B.

Post-Security Area (Boarding Area)
- A single small café and convenience kiosk offering coffee, snacks, and drinks.
- Standard gate seating with limited retail compared to the airport's other concourses.
- No dedicated VIP lounge in Terminal D — the nearest lounge options are The Lounge San Juan in Terminal A and The Lounge San Juan (Avianca Lounge) in Terminal C.
Immigration & Customs
- Domestic Arrivals (from the U.S. mainland): No passport or customs declaration required — treated the same as any domestic U.S. flight.
- International Arrivals: Standard U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) screening applies. International passengers arriving at Concourse D are processed at the shared CBP facility located between Concourses C and D.
- All international passengers must carry a valid passport, along with an approved ESTA or U.S. visa if applicable.
- Departing passengers headed to the U.S. mainland pass through a routine USDA agricultural inspection.
Access & Connectivity
- Terminal D is reached through the main Terminal B security checkpoint — no shuttle required between terminals.
- Beyond security, all four concourses (A, B, C, and D) are linked by covered walkways; walking from Concourse B to Terminal D takes about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal — no password required.
- Charging stations: Power outlets near gate seating areas.
- Parking: Short-term and long-term parking accessible via Terminal B.

Lounge Access — Terminal D
Terminal D does not have its own VIP lounge. Travelers connecting through Terminal D can access:

- The Lounge San Juan (Avianca Lounge) — Terminal C, third floor, Priority Pass / LoungeKey, open daily 6:00 AM–8:00 PM.
- Escape Lounge — Terminal B, opposite Gate B2, Priority Pass / LoungeKey, open daily 6:00 AM–9:00 PM, the only location with public shower facilities.
